Clifford E. Sailing

Clifford E. Sailing, age 85, of Janesville died on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Rock Haven Nursing Home. Clifford was born on November 16, 1931 in Avoca, WI, the son of Clarence and Mae (Draves) Sailing. He graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1949. Clifford served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from January 1951 to January 1954. Clifford married Ruth Ann Bier on June 28, 1952. He was employed as a carpenter by several Janesville area builders over the years and retired from Ron Arnold Builders. Clifford was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed a caribou hunting trip to Alaska and his fishing trips to Canada with friends.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth with whom he celebrated his 65th wedding anniversary on June 28th, three children, Joan Marklein of Janesville, Tom Sailing of Madison, Sue (Tom) Gantenbein of McFarland, WI, five grandchildren, Lucas Zilliox, Jesse (Becky) and Kody Hunt, Amanda (Mike Ferris) Marklein, Leah Gantenbein, three great-grandchildren, Lillie, Korban and Joey, his siblings, Jean Learner, Jerry Sailing, Marilyn Waldsmith, Gretta Norman, Dave Sailing and Dennis Sailing as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Tim Sailing, a daughter, Theresa Tighe, his son -in-law, William Marklein and two brothers, Darrel and Howard, Sailing.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Janesville with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 11 a.m. Father Paul Ugo Arinze will preside. Military rites by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621 will follow the Mass. The family is being assisted by Henke-Clarson Funeral and Cremation Service.
